Byron Bay based DJ and Producer Karime Baylis aka K-Hz is Australia’s pioneering music machine and is an icon of the bass music scene between the Byron Bay and Brisbane circuits. Renowned for his diverse, high energy and hard hitting selections, K-Hz is racing his way to the top faster than the BMPs of his sets! Born with bass in his blood to two creative parents, Karime was exposed to the arts from a young age and taught himself the art of beat making on his iPad as a kid. This hobby continued to evolve over the years into a serious passion for production, where the only limitation was imagination and boundaries only existed to be broken. Upon coming of age Karime left the comfort of the studio and immersed himself in the dark, sweaty corners of the local club scene. It was here where that feeling of freedom he found in production was shared with others in his new favourite domain, the dance floor - and it was in that moment he knew he had to be the one behind the decks! As the name suggests K-Hz’s sound is synonymous with anything 50hz and above. A disciple of artists such as DJ Rashad, Virtual Riot and Fixate, K-Hz style is inspired by the sounds of the UK and influenced by his African heritage. Incorporating a wide range of different bass styles, from the lush melodies of Footwork, to the broken groove of Jungle, all the way through to neck breaking Dubstep, K-Hz intricately delivers an unforgettable infusion of infectious rhythms, uplifting vocal chops and heavy hitting basslines. As outlined above Karime started his musical journey very early on and was almost exclusively self taught, it was after entering the ‘Your Shot’ DJ Competition in 2017 under his former alias Tympan!c that he decided to set his sights on the music industry as a serious career. Continuing under the Tympan!c alias for several years, Karime gained attention through his original productions, in turn landing a residency at the local club Woody’s Surf Shack, playing popular club nights such as Future Faktori and Club Raiders, and even scoring festival sets at Crankfest and the Central Highlands Multicultural Festival. Since completing his Cert 3 and Diploma of Electronic Music Production, and his Associates Degree in Audio Engineering at the prestigious SAE Byron Bay Karime has evolved away from Tympan!c and started his new project K-Hz. This rebranding is to better reflect his maturing of style and direction as an artist. In this short time as K-Hz he has secured himself a residency at the infamous Sub Rosa Brisbane and has been picked up for management by Round Town Promotions. With absolutely no sign of this young gun slowing down anytime soon, K-Hz is focused on continuing to grow his profile, to inspire a larger audience along his journey of musical freedom and expression without limitation. To build this audience K-Hz currently has a debut single in the works and a forthcoming EP due for release , with his sights set firmly on the Australian Festival scene and dreams of playing abroad! With more drive than Paul Walker in Fast and the Furious, we can only expect to see the tyres marks of burning success as this young ambassador makes his way to becoming the “World’s Heavy Bass Weight Champion”!
