Dj Nastor Real Name: Nhlakanipho Ntobeko Dlamini Birthplace: Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal Current Location: Johanessburg Genre: Afro House, House, Deep house, Amapiano Dj Nastor, born Nhlakanipho Ntobeko Dlamini in Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal, is a versatile and influential figure in the South African music scene. His journey in the world of music began at a young age, fuelled by a passion ignited by the house compilations from Soul Candi. Post-high school, he took a leap into music production from a bedroom studio, realizing the potential in his unique sound. Upon relocating to Johannesburg in 2010 to pursue sound engineering at Damelin in Braamfontein, Dj Nastor's path intersected with that of Dj Mbuso. This collaboration marked the beginning of a fruitful period at Phezulu Records, where he co-produced tracks with Dj Mbuso, Jerah, and various other artists. Notable in his early career is the collaboration with Dj QT on a single featured in The Quantized volume 6 album, earning him a Metro FM award nomination. A pivotal moment came when he joined forces with Dj Dukesta, performing at numerous clubs across Johannesburg, showcasing their dynamic musical synergy. Facing challenges in 2014, Dj Nastor briefly returned home but quickly redirected to Durban. There, he collaborated with renowned artists like Dj Mngadi, Professor, Mampintsha, Fey, Msawawa, Benzy, Bhar, and more. His residency at Ukhozi FM further expanded his reach across KZN, cementing his influence and paving the way for successful releases and collaborations. In 2016, Dj Nastor entered a new chapter, working with Mark Connor and releasing music through Gallo Records. Winning the SABC 1 - 1s and 2s (Master of Spin) season 4 competition propelled him to new heights, and his collaboration with Holly Rey on the track "Asambeni" became a chart-topper. The artist continued to evolve, forming the band Traxify in 2019, reaching the finals of The Remix SA. His independent releases under the record label "Phushi Plan Music" earned him recognition, with the Phushi Plan Music Selections 2020 album winning the Best Compilation Album at the South African Dance Music Awards. Dj Nastor's international success began when he partnered with Oscar Porche to establish Lukulu Recordings. Signed under Azucar and Sony Music/The Orchard in New York, the label gained traction globally, collaborating with renowned international labels like Open Bar Music, Black Mambo Records, and Kolour Recordings. Returning to Johannesburg in 2018, Dj Nastor extended his influence beyond performing and producing by becoming a music production lecturer at Rise Academy (Rosebank) and Dj4Life music academy (Fourways). His commitment to sharing knowledge and nurturing talent reflected his dedication to the growth of the music community. From 2020 to 2024, Dj Nastor took on the role of Audio and Visuals Manager at Expand.co.za, contributing to the composition of music for game shows, creating visuals for various platforms, and scoring music for the gaming industry. In 2024, he joint-ventured with Dj MidTempo to form a new record label called Tahoe Studios, releasing the Tahoe debut album with 20 songs featuring various artists, including Harrison Crump, Xixel (Mozambique), Cinamon & Bambi (France), Shané Fraenkel, Hills Mat (USA), and many more. In 2025, Dj Nastor became a resident DJ on radio, playing AfroTech on 5FM every Friday at 8PM on The Roger Goode Show. His latest release, "Ngyamthanda" featuring Natasha MD & Thee Suka, is making waves on the streets with its Afro house (3-step) sound, gaining demand on social media and support from fellow DJs. Additionally, he is featured on the new album by American house legend Harrison Crump, appearing on one song while producing four others. He also produced seven songs for "Soul Candi 6" by Dj Mbuso and two songs for "The Book of Bravo" by Dino Bravo. Currently, Dj Nastor is working on a new project set to release later this year. Today, Dj Nastor continues to be a driving force in the music industry, releasing singles, EPs, and albums through Lukulu Recordings, Tahoe Studios, and Phushi Plan Music. His enduring passion for music, coupled with his commitment to education and collaboration, solidify his legacy as a pivotal figure in the South African and international music scenes.
